The New York Islanders defeated the San Jose Sharks 5-2 on Tuesday night at UBS Arena for their second win of the season.
Oliver Wahlstrom scored two goals, including the game winner, and Anders Lee, Zach Parise and Cal Clutterbuck each scored their first of the season. Evgeny Svechnikov and Nico Sturm scored the goals for the Sharks.
Brock Nelson, Adam Pelech and Noah Dobson each posted multi-point efforts, with two assists each.
Semyon Varlamov made 27 saves in his first start of the season.

THE SCORING

First Period:
12:50 - SJS 1, NYI 0 - Nico Sturm taps in a rebound off a shot from the point for the first goal of the game. Evgeny Svechnikov and Jaycob Megna pick up the assists.
Second Period:
10:03 - NYI 1, SJS 1 - Anders Lee reaches his stick out with one hand to deflect an Adam Pelech point shot into the net. Brock Nelson earned the secondary assist.
14:48 - NYI 2, SJS 1 - Zach Parise tips in a Noah Dobson point shot in front of the net off his skate. Jean-Gabriel Pageau also picks up an assist.
17:10 - NYI 2, SJS 2 - Matt Benning sends a shot from the point. Semyon Varlamov made the initial save, but the puck bounced off Evgeny Svechnikov's skate and into the net.
19:05 - NYI 3, SJS 2 - Brock Nelson wins a faceoff, finding Oliver Wahlstrom cutting across the circle. Wahlstrom rips a shot past James Reimer.
Third Period:
6:24 - NYI 4, SJS 2 - Wahlstrom one-times a loose puck coming his way and snipes top-corner on Reimer for his second goal of the game.
17:34 - NYI 5, SJS 2 - Cal Clutterbuck scores an empty-netter. Matt Martin and Adam Pelech tally assists on the goal.

Anders Lee now has 11 goals and four assists in 15 career games against the Sharks... Lee now has four points in his last two games... Noah Dobson and Brock Nelson extended their point streaks to three games. The two are the only Islanders to find their way onto the scoresheet in every game this season... Nelson has four points, all assists in that stretch... Oliver Wahlstrom scored his third goal in just two games... Only the second time the Islanders have had 40 or more shots at UBS Arena

GOALTENDING BATTLE:

Semyon Varlamov made 27 saves on 29 shots.
James Reimer made 40 saves on 44 shots.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

The Isles went 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
