On a night the New York Islanders visited The Fortress, it was the reinforcements who did the raiding.
Simon Holmstrom, who scored his first NHL goal, and Hudson Fasching scored a pair of key goals for the Islanders, while Semyon Varlamov stopped 35 of 37 in a 5-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena.
The win snapped the Islanders three-game winless skid.
Anders Lee, Brock Nelson (ENG) and Zach Parise (ENG) scored for the Islanders, while Reilly Smith (2 PPG) also scored on Saturday night.

First Period
18:58 - NYI 1, VGK 0 - Anders Lee one-timed a feed from Anthony Beauvillier high past Logan Thompson. Robin Salo picks up the secondary assist on the captain's goal from the high slot.

4:30 - NYI 2, VGK 1 - Hudson Fasching skates down the left wing, goes around Alex Pietrangelo and cuts across the crease, depositing a puck five-hole on Thompson. Sebastian Ahoand Matt Martin pick up the assists.

4:30 - NYI 3, VGK 2 PPG - Smith scores his second power-play goal of the game, loading up a wrister and beating Varlamov through traffic. Pietrangelo and Chandler Stephenson with the assists.
18:33 - NYI 4, VGK 2 - Brock Nelson ices the game with an empty-netter.
19:49 - NYI 5, VGK 2 - Zach Parise added an empty-netter. Nelson and Pageau with the assists.

NOTEBOOK

Cal Clutterbuck and Kyle Palmieri both missed Saturday's game and are considered day-to-day with upper-body injuries. Hudson Fasching and Simon Holmstrom drew into the lineup in their places... Casey Cizikas just missed scoring a buzzer beater by a tenth of a second that would have put the Islanders ahead 4-1 at the end of the second period... Nelson extended his point streak to four games (1G, 3A)... Sebastian Aho extended his point streak to three games (1G, 2A)... Matt Martin had a team-high six hits...

GOALTENDING BATTLE

Semyon Varlamov stopped 35 of 37 in the win.
Ilya Sorokin stopped one of one in a relief appearance in the third period.
Logan Thompson stopped 21 of 24 in the loss.

SPECIAL TEAMS

The Isles power play went 0-for-2 while the penalty kill went 1-for-3.
