THE SCORING:
First Period:
9:01 - MTL 1, NYI 0 - Jeff Petry's point shot trickled past Ilya Sorokin as a netfront battle between Montreal's Michael Pezzetta and Ryan Pulock ensued to give the Canadiens a 1-0 lead. Brett Kulak and Ryan Poehling picked up the assists.
Second Period:
1:29 - NYI 1, MTL 1, PPG -Kyle Palmeri scored on the power play as he buried a rebound on the doorstep to tie the score 1-1. Zach Parise and Josh Bailey earned assists.
18:49 - MTL 2, NYI 1 - From a sharp angle, Josh Anderson fakes a pass and then wires his shot top shelf and over Ilya Sorokin's shoulder to double Montreal's lead 2-1. Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield tallied the assists.
Third Period:
17:03 - NYI 2, MTL 2 -Brock Nelson chased down a puck and put it past Andrew Hammond's near side to equalize the score 2-2. Kieffer Bellows and Sebastian Aho registered the assists.
Overtime:
No goals.
Shootout:
Cole Caufield and Rem Pitlick scored for Montreal in the shootout. Anthony Beauvillier opened the scoring in the shootout, but neither Mathew Barzal nor Brock Nelson converted their attempts for the Islanders, with Barzal finding iron.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
The Islanders were 1-for-4 on the power play and were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
