Originally thought to be out 4-6 weeks with an upper-body injury, Travis Hamonic is returning well ahead of schedule to play in Monday's game.
"We felt like there was a chance I could be back a lot sooner than originally anticipated," Hamonic said. "I had a chance to skate while the guys were on the road and I felt pretty good. I feel comfortable."
Hamonic said his hand injury shouldn't impact his play on the defensive end or his ability to handle the puck and bring it up the ice.
"I'll probably handle the puck as good as I usually do," Hamonic said. "I felt fine, where I had the break was on the upper part. I feel like I have no limitations on what I can normally do."
Coach Jack Capuano is using seven defensemen on Monday, so if Hamonic has any setbacks, Capuano has an alternate option in Scott Mayfield.
"I just want to make sure we're secure on the back end," Capuano said. "Travis is good to go. We don't play till Friday and the top guys will get a little more ice time tonight and try to get some more offense in our attack."
