New Bolduc

The New York Islanders recalled Samuel Bolduc from the Bridgeport Islanders on Monday morning, returning Otto Koivula in a corresponding move.
Bolduc's recall also comes as Sebastian Aho missed Monday's practice. Aho left Saturday's 4-1 win over San Jose in the first period and did not return. After Monday's practice, Head Coach Lane Lambert provided an update on the 27-year-old defenseman that he is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Bolduc has one point (1G) through six NHL appearances, scoring his first goal on Feb. 7 against Seattle. The 22-year-old made his NHL debut on Jan. 23 against the Maple Leafs, so if he slots in the lineup on Tuesday night he will face Toronto for the second time in his career.
"I was pretty excited when I got the call again," Bolduc said on Monday. "Toronto is a pretty good team, I played my first game [against them] so I know a little bit of what to expect."

Bolduc skated on the second power play unit in practice. Lambert was impressed with the young defenseman on Monday and also in his six prior games with the team.
"I liked the way he moved the puck," Lambert said of Bolduc's first six NHL appearances. "He's a big guy. When he uses his size, he's a pretty steady player. I really like him on the power play and getting pucks through."
The Islanders 2019 second-round draft pick (57th overall) has 35 points (10G, 25A) through 56 games in Bridgeport this season. The young defenseman was riding a two-game point streak (2A) before his recall, collecting an assist on Friday and Saturday.
Koivula recorded two points (2A) through eight appearances for the Islanders this season. He played 28 games over three seasons for the Islanders, tallying four points (4A) over that span.
The 24-year-old winger has 25 points (12G, 13A) through 45 games played for Bridgeport this season. Koivula, who the Islanders drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL draft (120th overall), was riding a three game point streak in Bridgeport (2G, 2A) before his recall on Feb. 22.

BARZAL UPDATE

Mathew Barzal has not resumed skating, per Lambert. Barzal has been out since Feb. 18 with a lower-body injury.
