Hart-BW

The New York Islanders are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gerry Hart.

Hart, 75, joined the Islanders as an inaugural member in 1972 and played on Long Island until 1979, reaching the playoffs five times in seven seasons.

After his playing career, Hart settled permanently in the community. In October 1992, Hart helped open "The Rinx" recreational facility in Hauppauge and was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 for his efforts.

A defenseman from Flin Flon, Manitoba, Hart recorded 29 goals and 150 assists for 179 points in 730 career NHL games with the Islanders, Quebec Nordiques, St. Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings.
