HE’S A BIG-BODIED DEFENSEMAN

The 28-year-old defenseman stands at 6'7'' and 231 lbs. Stanley is the tallest listed Islander on the 2026-27 roster. 

HIS STATS

Stanley has recorded 62 points (14G, 48A) across 278 games with the Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres. Stanley set career highs in goals (9), assists (17) and points (26) last year between the Jets and Sabres. In 59 games with the Jets last season, Stanley tallied 21 points (9G, 12A). In 17 games with the Sabres, the defenseman recorded five points (5A).

Stanley also recorded 110 hits and 84 blocks last season. Stanley has 467 hits and 351 blocks in his career. 

Since his NHL debut on Jan. 18, 2021, Stanley's 453 and 336 hits and blocked shots, respectively, rank fifth amongst Winnipeg defensemen.

HE’S A FORMER FIRST-ROUNDER

Stanley was selected in the first round, 18th overall, by the Winnipeg Jets, in the 2016 draft. He spent parts of six seasons in Winnipeg, totaling 261 games. His 278 games rank 10th among defensemen taken in the 2016 Draft. 

HE WILL WEAR NUMBER 8

Stanley will sport the number eight, last worn by defenseman Noah Dobson. Other notable players to wear number eight include Garry Howatt, Bruno Gervais and (briefly) Patrick Flatley.

HE PLAYED FOR ROCKY THOMPSON IN JUNIOR

Stanley has a connection with Islanders Assistant Coach, Rocky Thompson. Stanley played two seasons under Thompson with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League from 2015-2017.

HE’S A MEMORIAL CUP CHAMPION

Stanley won a Memorial Cup in 2017 with the Windsor Spitfires under Rocky Thompson. In that season, Stanley notched 17 points (4G, 13A) across 35 games.

HE’LL DROP THE GLOVES

Stanley has dropped the gloves 24 times (23 times in the regular season, once in the playoffs) in his NHL career. His 23 regular season fights rank eighth in the NHL since he entered the league on Jan. 18, 2021.
