The Vegas Golden Knights and Henderson Silver Knights were part of Nevada Reading Week presented by SilverSummit Healthplan during the first week of March. Members of the organization virtually joined 35 classrooms ranging from kindergarten to grade five around Clark County and read to students to bring some VGK to their day of distance learning.
Head Coach Pete DeBoer, forward Alex Tuch, defenseman Nick Holden and alumni Deryk Engelland from the Golden Knights were among those who participated in the celebration of reading. From the Henderson Silver Knights, Jake Bischoff, Jimmy Schuldt and Jermaine Loewen took the time to read to students.

Vegas Golden Knights broadcasters Dave Goucher, Gary Lawless, Stormy Buonantony and Mike McKenna as well as member of the VGK and HSK cast of characters virtually visited students during the week.
"Reading week is an important initiative for the VGK Foundation because it gives exposure to hockey to kids all around Clark County," said Mia Greenlee from the VGK Foundation. "Supporting academics and youth development are key parts of our foundational pillars and we're thrilled to be involved in this celebration of reading."
Before COVID-19, members of the organization would go to schools and read to as many students as could fit in a classroom or assembly hall. Now in its virtual state, the team was able to reach ever more students by doing it through video conference.
More than 3,000 students in Clark County were part of the festivities as the Golden Knights organization participated in Reading Week for the fourth time. The event was also the first joint community initiative for the Golden Knights and Silver Knights.
"Our Silver Knights players and staff reached students in Henderson that hadn't had much experience with hockey before," Greenlee said. "These kids go to school just minutes from Lifeguard Arena and now they have a connection to their hometown team."
The Golden Knights Foundation read more than 500 submissions from teachers in Clark County and are excited to reach even more students during Reading Week 2022.
