The Vegas Golden Knights came up a goal short against the Detroit Red Wings in a 3-2 overtime loss Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
Luke Glendening pocketed the game's first goal early in the first period to put the Red Wings in the lead. Vegas went without a goal in the first frame, but Cody Eakin buried his 20th goal of the season at 14:43 of the second to level the score at 1-1. Midway through the third, Reilly Smith netted his first shorthanded goal of the season to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 edge. Anthony Mantha scored 1:05 later to tie the score before finding the overtime winner 19 seconds into the extra session to propel Detroit to the win.
TURNING POINT
The momentum was with the Golden Knights after Smith's pretty shorthanded goal, but the Red Wings didn't waste much time drumming up an answer. Mantha's goal at 11:17 of the third quickly quieted the crowd and gave Detroit the push they needed to pull out the victory.

Reilly Smith: Smith scored his 116th career goal during game No. 500 of his NHL career. He has nine points in his last four games (4G, 5A).
Cody Eakin: Eakin's second-period goal was his 20th of the season - a new career-high.
Anthony Mantha:Mantha score the game-tying and game-winning goals en route to the Detroit win.

UPDATE RE: INCIDENT AT CITY NATIONAL ARENA
There was an incident that took place Saturday evening at City National Arena involving a fire in the kitchen at MacKenzie River (reports of a gas leak or gas explosion were inaccurate). The arena was temporarily evacuated and has since been deemed safe by Clark County Fire and reopened. One injury was reported and the individual is being treated. MacKenzie River will remain closed for the time being however the rest of the building is open and activities will resume as regularly scheduled.
