The Vegas Golden Knights came up a goal short against the Detroit Red Wings in a 3-2 overtime loss Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
Luke Glendening pocketed the game's first goal early in the first period to put the Red Wings in the lead. Vegas went without a goal in the first frame, but Cody Eakin buried his 20th goal of the season at 14:43 of the second to level the score at 1-1. Midway through the third, Reilly Smith netted his first shorthanded goal of the season to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 edge. Anthony Mantha scored 1:05 later to tie the score before finding the overtime winner 19 seconds into the extra session to propel Detroit to the win.
TURNING POINT
The momentum was with the Golden Knights after Smith's pretty shorthanded goal, but the Red Wings didn't waste much time drumming up an answer. Mantha's goal at 11:17 of the third quickly quieted the crowd and gave Detroit the push they needed to pull out the victory.
