Flames prospect Cole Reschny has been named the youngest captain in University of North Dakota hockey history, the school announced Tuesday.
Reschny, the No.-18 selection in the 2025 NHL Draft, enters his sophomore collegiate campaign after winning NCHC Conference Rookie of the Year honours in 2025-26. Last winter, the product of Macklin, Sask. compiled 35 points (6G, 29A) in 36 games, helping the Fighting Hawks reach the Frozen Four tournament in Las Vegas while also helping lead Canada's bronze-medal entry at the 2026 World Juniors in Minnesota.
He becomes the first underclassman to wear the 'C' at North Dakota since current Colorado Avalanche assistant coach Dave Hakstol did so during the 1990-91 season.
"Cole was voted by his teammates to be the youngest captain in UND hockey history for a good reason," said North Dakota head coach Dane Jackson in a release. "His mature presence, relentless work ethic and team-first approach embodies our North Dakota culture."
Additionally, Reschny was named to the NCHC preseason all-Conference team Tuesday.
North Dakota, who sit No. 2 in the NCHC preseason poll, opens its 2026-27 season at home against Augustana and Manitoba Oct. 3-4.
