Postgame Quotes
Anaheim Ducks
Brandon Montour
On four rookie defensemen in the lineup
We have some key players on our team out, but we have all the confidence in the world with guys coming up and down from San Diego. Obviously, it was Josh [Mahura's] first game. Andy [Welinski], Petey [Marcus Pettersson] and Lars [Jacob Larsson], those guys have played a number of games. They're getting their experience. It's good for us. Getting more minutes for the young guys.
On the team finding offense
Last couple of games, we've been generating more shots. It was going to come. It was nice to get a couple. Three goals wasn't enough, but it was nice we got a couple.
Ryan Miller
On the positives
I thought we skated much better. We were in control of the play a little bit tonight. Unfortunately, we didn't get the penalty kills we needed. It's frustrating.
On the Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen line
They're always going to get the offensive-zone start. Every time they were in our zone, they would start. A lot of awareness out there. For the most part, I thought we did all right. They got their points and two [power-play goals].
Head Coach Randy Carlyle
On Montour's performance
We're going to have to rely on more people to elevate and play more minutes than they've been accustomed. That's an example of Monty getting his feet underneath him and making contributions on both the defensive side and offensive side. Just more of an opportunity for a young player to grow his game.
On the execution level of the team
I thought we executed with the puck early in the game. We had some questionable plays later in the game where we seemed to get a little soft with it. There were more pucks bouncing and rolling around. They came with more pressure. They got on us, and we didn't execute quite to the same level in the last half of the game as we did in the first half.
Colorado Avalanche
Mikko Rantanen
On what was said in the room before the third period
We knew we wanted to bounce back. Got a big goal from Nate [Nathan MacKinnon] in the second and had the one goal game, and we knew we had a lot of gas in the tank. We knew we were going to out play them in the third and I think that's what we did. They [Ducks] defended pretty well, but we got it done and that's the biggest thing.
On Philipp Grubauer's play
He made some really big saves there. One breakaway save. I think that was the highlight. He kept it a 3-2 game. I think it was a really good game from him. He made some big saves in the OT [overtime] too, so it was good.
Carl Soderberg
On tonight's game and what it came down to
I think we stayed with it. We eventually got that second and third goal, so felt pretty good in the second period. Great power play goal in the second and we really thought we were going to turn this around.
On the maturity of their team and ability to comeback
We know we can do it. We have done it, I think three times now or something like that. It's pretty tough when you are down one or two goals.
Head Coach Jared Bednar
On what it took to win in overtime
Well, I mean it was pretty tight checking early and then we gave up a couple opportunities in the first. Tight checking game first period, second period I thought we gained a little momentum especially on that one long shift. You know, wasn't much going on for power plays. We gave up one early, and then we had a big kill after that to try to keep it within two. We kinda felt like we had more to give going into the third period. We come up with a big power play goal at the end of the second to get within striking distance, then came out and won the third. It took the full sixty minutes.
On Nathan MacKinnon
Highly competitive, that's what it is, he's a highly competitive individual player. He wants to be on the ice all the time. You just kind of had the feeling with some of the chances that they started to create that they'd be difference makers and then they end up getting a couple goals for us, a couple big goals for us.
