On a 23-man roster, there are certain players who take on the unenviable task of the extra man. A seventh defenseman or 13th forward spends a lot of his time after practices staying sharp for the moment his number is called.
Korbinian Holzer exemplifies the type of professionalism and experience necessary for the role.
The 30-year old rearguard appeared in just 16 games last season, recording six penalty minutes in those contests. In three years with the club, he's skated in 77 contests, collecting 10 points (2g/8a) and 39 penalty minutes.
He also skated with San Diego last season, recording two assists in nine games with the organization's top affiliate.
After bowing out in the First Round, Holzer suited up with Team Germany in the World Championship. Making his fourth appearance with his national team, he recorded an assist in seven games.
Holzer, never one to hide his personality, continued to serve as a fun voice on social media and team videos during last season. He joined Ducks television reporter Kent French for the Ginger Road Tour, with the two eating cheesesteaks in Philadelphia and bowling in Vancouver.
