Q&A with Hameenaho

What have you learned from your time in the NHL so far?

Obviously, you learn every game you get to play. It’s been almost 20 games. I’ve enjoyed my time. I try to be better every game. I think I’m learning every game I get to play. That’s a good thing.

Is there anything in your game that you’ve adjust well to the NHL level?

Starting to feel more comfortable with the speed. I don’t have to think so much. Can play pretty naturally and not think that much. There are a lot of things I want to do better, and keep getting better all the time.

What are those things you want to get better?

Plays on the wall. Getting pucks deep on the blue line. Don’t give opportunities for the opponent to score. Small things that I need to work on and get better.

What’s it been like to have Cody Glass as your center?

It’s been great. He’s a very good player. I like his game a lot. He’s very good in the offensive zone but he helps me in the D zone. So funny and happy guy. It’s been nice to play with him.

What about playing with Gritsyuk and Bratt?

Both guys are so skilled. I try to find myself in open spaces that I can score. I feel Bratt was giving me pretty good passes. Hopefully, I’ll score those next time. But it’s been really nice to play with both guys.

How important is it to feel freedom in your game?

It feels nice to play your own game and feel more comfortable, just enjoy the hockey. Don’t need to be nervous all the time. That’s a good thing. Obviously, I need to be ready for every game and shift you’re going to play so you don’t make mistakes and play good hockey.

Operation Shower

The guests of honor were 20 military moms-to-be. They were hosted by the Devils’ wives and girlfriends, the Devils Youth Foundation and Verizon as part of Operation Shower, an organization that throws baby showers for military moms and moms-to-be whose partners are deployed on military bases.

“Operation Shower was founded in 2007 with the idea to recognize the moms and the women back at home and active duties moms themselves,” said Amy Velle Isle, Chief Creative Officer for Operation Shower. “Our mission is to connect moms that are in similar situations. They may be far away from their family and friends. They may not have the opportunity to have a baby shower. They may not have a community. So, we want to bring them together, celebrate them and say that we see them.”
