Shlaine led the team in scoring with 78 points (26-52) in 46 games and his 52 assists were a team-best. Although Shattuck had a shortened season due to COVID-19, Shlaine and his teammates went 35-8-3 and won the 2020 McPherson Cup tournament. The Devils fifth round selection also found success with Shattuck during the 2018-19 season where he had 90 points (34-56) over 56 games.

In addition to playing for Shattuck, Shlaine played five games for Muskegon in the USHL during the 2019-20 season. He had two goals and one assist for a total of three points.
Elite Prospect's Draft Guide states that "Shlaine boasts outstanding puck skills. He not only possess through layers, but consistently passes into space hitting teammates on their tape. His shot gives goaltenders grief, with changes in angle, quick release points, and precise shot placement. Shlaine employs a complex selection of dekes and shows a willingness to crash and attack rebounds."
