PRE-GAME STORY

DETROIT, MI. -The Devils look to rebound from last night's disappointing loss to the Washington Capitals but to do so they'll have to completely commit to fixing their puck management errors.
"Manage the puck," said Head Coach Lindy Ruff. "I mean, it's nothing more than manage the puck. Support the guy with the puck and manage it. Simple as that."
BACK TO FOUR LINES
The Devils experiment of 11 forwards and seven defensemen seems over for the time being. It was part of their success during their three-game win streak but following the loss to Washington it's back to the basics.
"Up front, we're gonna go back to four lines," said Ruff. "We've got a couple players who are gametime decisions so we'll look at where we're at after warmups."
GETTING THE FINISH GOING
The Devils have been lighting up the shot counter but haven't converted on all of their Grade A chances so far this season. For Ruff, it's about sticking with what's working and hopefully the floodgates will open.
"You continue to do the right things, to get the puck to the right place, create the right opportunities, and they'll go in," said Ruff. "Eventually, they'll go in. And when they go in, all of a sudden the player will score five in six games. I have all the faith that they will."

Head-to-Head:
Tuesday's game is the second of three meetings between the Red Wings and Devils this season, and the second time the teams are facing off in October. Detroit picked up a 5-2 win over New Jersey in the Devils home opener at Prudential Center on Oct. 15. Dougie Hamilton and Miles Wood scored in the loss for the Devils.
New Jersey and Detroit will play one final time at Little Caesars Arena on Jan. 4, 2023.
Devils Team Scope:
After winning three straight, the Devils dropped a 6-3 decision to the Washington Capitals at home on Monday night. In the second period, the Capitals had four straight goals to give the visiting team a commanding 5-1 lead going into the third period. The Devils battled back with two third period goals; however, a goal in the final five minutes for Washington sealed the victory for the visitors.
Ondrej Palat leads the Devils with three goals, while Jesper Bratt holds the team lead for assists (8) and points (9). Bratt scored his first goal of the season in Monday's loss.
Both Devils goaltenders saw time in Monday's game with Mackenzie Blackwood playing two periods before Vitek Vanecek relieved the netminder in the third period. Blackwood has a .871 save percentage and is averaging 2.81 goals against. Vanecek is averaging 4.50 goals against and has a .769 save percentage; however his numbers are only from four periods of hockey in the regular season.
The Devils are in the top five for face-off wins and center Erik Haula is in the top-10 with a 63% win rate. New Jersey's power play has scored on two of 19 opportunities and is still searching for the winning formula. On the other hand, the Devils penalty kill remains strong, only allowing in two goals this season on 18 penalties.
Red Wings Team Scope:
The Red Wings come into Tuesday looking to start a winning streak after downing the Anaheim Ducks, 5-1, on Sunday. Detroit has picked up points in each of its five games so far this season after dropping two overtime games last week. In the victory over the Ducks, the Red Wings had five different goal scorers: Dylan Larkin, David Perron, Joe Veleno, Dominik Kubalik, and Elmer Soderblom. Three of the five goals were on the power play.
David Perron leads the team with four goals while Dominik Kubalik leads Detroit with five assists and eight total points. Ville Husso and Alex Nedeljkovic have split time throughout the start of the year. Husso is averaging two goals against a game and has a .939 save percentage. Nedeljkovic has a 2.96 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.
Detroit is one of three teams with a perfect penalty kill as the Red Wings have killed off all 17 penalties. The Red Wings power play is middle of the pack, scoring 23.8% of the time. In addition, Detroit is in the top-ten with goals for, averaging four tallies a game. They also allow on average less than three goals a game, making them sixth in the league in that category. Despite being a younger team, the Red Wings are finding a lot of scoring power and special teams success to start off the year with a 3-0-2 record.
