Haula vs Caps

The Devils made it close in the third period, but four unanswered goals in the second period by the Capitals ultimately made the biggest difference.
Nathan Bastian opened the scoring in the first, while Tomas Tatar and Jesper Bratt had third-period goals but that would be the extent of the scoring, the comeback falling short after a difficult second period.
"We should know, if you're not going to play 60 minutes, it's hard to win games in this league," Nico Hischier said after the game. "We had a hard time finding our legs and they made us pay."
The comeback from a 5-1 deficit falls short in a 6-3 final, while the loss also ended a three-game win streak for New Jersey.
"It's frustrating," John Marino said after the game, "we played really well the past couple of games and we started off really strong too, so to have that second period, pretty disappointing."
It will be a quick turnaround with the club in Detroit tomorrow night.
"That's the good thing about an 82-game schedule, there's always the next game," Marino said of the quick turnaround.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Devils are on the road tomorrow night in Detroit. The team returns to Prudential Center on Friday night to host the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche.
If you're going to Friday's game against the Avalanche,
tickets are still available!
Here are some observations from the game...
- Tomas Tatar has had a shooting mentality through the first games of the season and was finally able to capitalize on a chance, crashing the crease with Miles Wood doing some heavy lifting in front of Lindgren. The goal came on Tatar's sixth shot of the game. Dougie Hamilton assisted on the goal. The Tatar goal cut the Capitals lead to 5-2 at 4:08 of the third. - Jesper Bratt's first goal of the season cut the Capitals lead to 5-3 just before the midway point of the third period. Bratt was being pursued on the backcheck but kept on his skates to make a nice move to catch Lindgren. Bratt's goal was assisted by Marino, who also assisted on Nathan Bastian's goal. - Once again New Jersey had the advantage in shots on goal, ending the game with 40 shots on goal. The fewest shots on goal the club has had this early season is 37.
