WHAT'S NEXT
The Devils return to the ice tomorrow with another two-a-day with Group A and Group B holding separate practices. The next Camp Game will be Friday, January 8 at 11:00 AM ET and it will be streamed live once again on NewJerseyDevils.com.
"After having a day off yesterday, our skating was better. There wasn't as much fatigue in our game," opened Devils head coach Lindy Ruff. "The pace was really good. The shifts were short. We stayed away from getting caught on long shifts and giving up opportunities."
Team Red struck first with a shot from the high slot by Sharangovich that made its way through.
Team White tied things up when Ty Smith fed his d-partner Damon Severson, who then fired a shot on net that was redirected in by Miles Wood.
"I like Ty's game," Ruff said of the rookie. "I went through his previous game and thought defnesively he played well, moved the puck well. I thought again today, he moved well. Moved the puck well."
Sharangovich continued his ridiculous offseason by potting his second goal of the game to put Team Red up 2-1 in the second. Sharangovich came to New Jersey riding a hot streak. He finished with 25 points, including 17 goals, in 34 KHL contests for Dinamo Minsk.
He's a fifth-round pick of the Devils from the 2018 NHL Draft. If a young player is to make a splash and earn a roster spot, it might be Sharangovich.
"He gets to the right spot. His shot. I've been watching him. I almost watched him every shift," said Ruff. "He sees the ice well. He gets himself in a position to get some opportuniites. He's been a good player for us in the scrimmages so far."
Mikhail Maltsev pushed Red ahead 3-1 with a breakaway beauty, but Ben Street quickly cut that lead to 3-2 with a goal for Team White.
In the end, it was veteran Kyle Palmieri making a nice move while driving the net who made it 4-2 and delivered Red to victory.
Overall, the game was a success for Coach Ruff, who watched from the stands.
"Our forwards worked really hard to get behind the other team to create some space," he began.
"On one end, you like what you're creating and at the other you want to make sure you're not giving up those opportunities. I liked the scrimmage today more than Sunday."
