PRE-GAME STORY

NEWARK, NJ - Thursday was a tough loss for the Devils, falling 8-1 to the Bruins in Boston. Devils head coach Lindy Ruff said before yesterday's game against the Panthers that a needed a response from the club, and he got just that.
Devils scored two goals very early on and kept pouring on the gas. By the end of the second period, it was 6-2 for New Jersey with the home team firmly in control.
However, it all fell apart in the third.
"A young team that got scared," was Ruff's assessment of the loss. "They've got to live through it."
Florida scored four times in the third period and outshot the Devils 23-5 -- it was a game that the Devils had a 25-16 edge on the shot clock in the prior 40 minutes. The Panthers then added one in overtime to take two points.
"We talked about playing well away from the puck. For 48 minutes (yesterday) we probably did. We made some mistakes in the last 12 minutes that cost us," added Ruff. "We need to focus on what went well in the first 48 yesterday. I don't think we gave up more than 15, 16 shots. We played well away from the puck and got rewarded and made good plays."
ROSTER NOTES
The Devils will have Pavel Zacha back in the lineup tonight. Ruff also didn't confirm, but it's likely Nico Daws starts in goal. Ruff did say that Miles Wood would not play for the second straight game due to a minor injury.
