Canucks Agree to Terms with Teddy Blueger on a One-Year Contract

Vancouver, B.C.- Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Teddy Blueger on a one-year contract worth $1.9 million.

"Teddy is someone we are familiar with and will fit in nicely with our club," said Allvin. "We needed some veteran experience down the middle to help us improve this coming season. Teddy has been a part of two Stanley Cup winning teams and will add a lot to our lineup, including the ability to kill penalties, an area we know we have to be better this year."

Blueger, 28, split the 2022.23 season between the Vegas Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins, totalling 16 points (4-12-16) and 30 penalty minutes in 63 combined regular season games. Between both teams he also registered 71 hits and 47 blocked shots.

The 6'0", 185-pound centre also appeared in six playoff games for the Golden Knights, posting a goal and an assist to help Vegas capture their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. In his six-year NHL career, Blueger has collected 98 points (35-63-98) and 96 penalty minutes across 268 regular season contests with Vegas and Pittsburgh. He has also added four points (2-2-4) in 24 career NHL playoff games.

A prominent penalty killer, Blueger is tied for the 25th-highest shorthanded time on ice per game among NHL forwards since making his NHL debut in 2018.19. Moreover, 11 (5-6-11) of his 98 career points have come while shorthanded.

A product of Riga, Latvia, Blueger has represented his country on several international occasions, including multiple World Championships and IIHF World Junior Championships. Blueger was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the second round, 52nd overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
