MONTREAL -- Defenseman Kaiden Guhle was named captain of Team Canada for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship on Monday.

The 19-year-old Sherwood Park, AB native will sport the "C" alongside assistants Jake Neighbours and Cole Perfetti.

Guhle is making his second straight appearance at the annual event after helping Canada claim silver last year.
Montreal's 16th-overall selection in 2020 previously served as captain of the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders before being traded to the Edmonton Oil Kings on December 1.

The Championship will run from December 26 - January 5 in Edmonton and Red Deer, AB.
Canada will open preliminary round play on Boxing Day against the Czech Republic, before battling Austria (December 28), Germany (December 29) and Finland (December 31).
