Tatar-Recap-EN2

MONTREAL - With the Canadiens' 2019-20 campaign in the rearview mirror, it's time to look back at how it all went down for the Habs this season. First up: Tomas Tatar.

The skinny
The regular season may seem like it was eons ago, but that's no excuse to forget that Tatar's sophomore campaign with the Habs was a roaring success. Once again flanking Phillip Danault and Brendan Gallagher on the left, the Slovakian forward picked up where he left off after joining the Canadiens just prior to the start of 2018-19. When Tatar put together his season-high four-point night in mid-November against the Capitals, he was leading the Canadiens with 19 points (7G, 12A) in as many games.
Tuna would go on to finish atop the Montreal points list with a personal-best 61 points, with his 39 assists also the most of his nine-year NHL career. That's even more impressive when you consider that it took him just 67 games to reach the 60-point mark, fourth-fewest to get there on the Canadiens in the past 20 seasons. He was also the ninth European-born player - and first Slovakian - to ever record a 60-point season for the Habs.* Had the season been played to completion, Tatar was projected to enjoy a 71-point campaign (26G, 45A), far above his previous career high of 58 from last year.
Notable numbers
Playoff punditry
Tatar's playoffs weren't quite as productive, with No. 90 managing a pair of goals - including one game-winner - in 10 contests. But Tatar was still a threat, finishing fifth on the team with 34 high-danger scoring chances, and also landing in the team's top-10 in Corsi (56.7%) and Fenwick (54.1%).
Goal of the year

They said it
"In the first series against Pittsburgh, we had a task in front of us: we were playing against the top line. I think we were really happy with our line, with what we did on the defensive side. Obviously, we would've liked to have been a little more productive, but that's what the playoffs are about. We advanced; we were really excited about it. And against Philly, I'm really proud of our team. We did a really good job. If the posts were a little thinner, maybe we'd be talking from Toronto and not from home. My overall impression, I was happy with what we did. Our line - Phil and Gally - we battled. I wish I would've scored some more goals, but there are a lot of things you can look at on the bright side. I'm just trying to take as many positives from there and bring it for next year." -Tatar, in an end-of-season conference call with the media in August
