DETROIT - The Canadiens put their three-game winless slide to an end with a 3-2 shootout win over the Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday.

Evgenii Dadonov returned to action after a four-game absence, skating on a line with Sean Monahan and Jonathan Drouin. Johnathan Kovacevic also drew back into the lineup after sitting out on Saturday versus Vegas.
Jake Allen was the starter for Montreal.
Mike Hoffman opened the scoring for the Habs, with help from Brendan Gallagher. The Habs' alternate captain drove the puck into the zone and fired on Detroit netminder Ville Husso, with Hoffman in perfect position to bury the rebound from in front. The goal, Hoffman's second of the season, was scored at 5:41 of the first.
Gallagher and Jordan Harris got the assists.
A bit later on in the period, Allen kept his team in the game when he stopped Dylan Larkin on a penalty shot to preserve the 1-0 lead.

The Wings, however, tied things up with 3:31 to go in the opening frame, when Austin Czarnik tapped in Dominik Kubalik's centering pass in the slot.
Then, with just over 15 seconds in the frame, Hoffman and Gallagher repeated the first goal in nearly identical fashion, except this time Hoffman started things off with a give-and-go with Christian Dvorak at the Detroit blue line to enter the zone.
Despite being outshot 16-8 in the first, Montreal went back to the room ahead 2-1 in the game.

In the second, the Canadiens got into a bit of penalty trouble, taking three minor penalties in the period. But the Habs' special teams were up to the task, killing off all three Detroit power plays.
Neither team lit the lamp in the middle frame, with Detroit outshooting Montreal 14-9.
In the third, the Red Wings tied the game just past the halfway mark of the period when Lucas Raymond one-timed it in past Allen for his fifth of the season.
That would be the last goal before regulation time ran out, meaning this game would be decided in extra time, although overtime didn't determine a winner.
In the shootout, Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki scored for the Habs, and with only David Perron finding twine for the hosts, Montreal took the game.
