Game Story

MONTREAL - The Bell Centre faithful were privy to a classic Canadiens - Bruins duel on Saturday night, but the home side failed to come out on top.

The Habs rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to tie things up, before the Bruins capitalized on a late power play opportunity to secure a 3-2 victory.
That extended the Canadiens' losing streak to four straight games.
It was a tough defeat to swallow, according to assistant captain Brendan Gallagher.
"It was a big game. It sucks that they were able to come here and get two points and we go away with nothing. It's tough," said Gallagher. "They're a team that's right by us in the standings, so it's obviously not a good feeling."

MTL Recap: Drouin, Tatar's efforts not enough in loss

Andrew Shaw, who collected his 100th career assist in the NHL on Tomas Tatar's game-tying tally, mentioned that banking just one point in their last two games is far from satisfactory.
"We didn't get the result we wanted. It was a tight game, a divisional game," said Shaw. "With two games back to back and we only come out with one point, with the standings so tight, we needed to find the two points tonight."
A physical contest
The intense rivalry between the two squads was on full display on Saturday night, as 30 penalty minutes were handed out.
Likewise, the Canadiens dished out a season-high 51 hits.
Gallagher said that was to be expected.
"This rivalry has been around for a really long time. It means a lot to the fans. I think this was the first taste of it for a lot of guys," indicated Gallagher. "With two teams that are so close in the standings, you're going to get some animosity just from that. You add on the rivalry factor, I think it was a competitive game. Both teams played hard. We just came out on the losing end."

For his part, Charles Hudon led the Canadiens with 13 hits, a personal best for the Alma, QC native.
Following the game, Hudon explained why he was especially physical against Boston.
"When you see one of your best players like Jo being hit like that, you don't want it to happen again. We tried to battle back with our physicality. It isn't generally my game, but it gives me momentum to play like that," affirmed Hudon. "It can also create more scoring chances for me."
Head coach Claude Julien believes there are some positives to take away from the tilt.
"Overall, we played a good game. It was a very physical game," said Julien. "We found a way to get back into it."

A solid performance by Drouin
It was Jonathan Drouin who began the Canadiens' rally with a highlight-reel individual effort.
In addition to his tally, Drouin finished the game with seven shots on goal.
Shaw was a big fan of Drouin's effort against the Bruins.
"He played well. He had the puck, he made plays, he backchecked, he forechecked, he stole pucks. And , if he ever lost the puck, he worked hard to get it back. It's great to see that," praised Shaw. "He's a leader on this team, and we need him to play like that."
