QUEBEC CITY – The Canadiens opened their séjour in the provincial capital with a 5-0 win against the Ottawa Senators.

The trip to Quebec City began with a pit stop at Château Frontenac for a team photo, and the result was picture perfect. Well, almost perfect.

Can’t blame a guy for squinting when the future is so bright.

Habs fans understood the assignment, showing up for pregame festivities in plenty of bleu-blanc-rouge. Former Habs defenseman David Savard was notably in attendance to mingle with supporters.

Come game time, players arrived wearing beaded pins created by Mohawk artists in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Inside Centre Vidéotron, the Canadiens took control of the contest early and did not look back. Oliver Kapanen, Patrik Laine, Alexandre Carrier, Lane Hutson and Kirby Dach were the Habs goalscorers on the night. With the decisive win, the Canadiens improve to 4-1-0 on the preseason with one exhibition game remaining.

Between the pipes, Jakub Dobes stopped all 16 shots he faced for the shutout.

What’s next

The Canadiens enjoy a day off in the Quebec City region on Wednesday, before training camp resumes with a pair of open practices at Centre Vidéotron on Thursday and Friday. The preseason schedule then wraps up Saturday when the Habs and Sens meet again at the Bell Centre.
