LAS VEGAS - The Canadiens could not string together consecutive wins for a first time this season, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday.

The Habs were in Vegas for the first time since last summer's Stanley Cup semifinal, the fifth stop on a seven-game American road trip.
It was the Golden Knights' top scorer, Chandler Stephenson, who got Vegas on the board first in the back-and-forth affair. Stephenson buried a loose puck in front of the net past Sam Montembeault just 3:40 into the contest.
Michael Pezzetta replied for the Habs before the opening 20 expired. On Tuesday the Habs forward scored a goal with a puck off his chin, but this one went in the old-fashioned way, as Pezzetta snapped an Artturi Lehkonen rebound in for the equalizer at 15:28.

Montembeault made 17 saves in a busy first period for the Habs netminder.
Back for the second, and the Golden Knights got on the board first once again. This time it was William Karlsson who grabbed a Jonathan Marchessault's pass off the rush and backhanded it in on the power play.
The Canadiens' own power play got going shortly thereafter, as Tyler Toffoli scored for the second time in as many games since returning from injury, this time with the man advantage. It also marked the Habs' fourth consecutive game with a goal on the power play.

Tied at two after 40, Vegas nevertheless held a 32-19 advantage in shots.
Montreal took its first lead of the game early in the third as Mike Hoffman's one-timer at 6:15 made it 3-2 for the visitors.

But the lead was shortlived as Marchessault scored on the power play to force the extra period.
Shea Theodore broke the tie for good 1:50 into overtime to win it 4-3 for Vegas. Montembeault finished the night with 49 saves.
The Canadiens will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Colorado to take on the Avalanche.
