MONTREAL - Jordan Harris was named the Canadiens' nominee for this year's King Clancy Memorial Trophy on Tuesday.

The award is presented to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

Harris is one of 32 nominees selected League-wide by their respective NHL teams on Tuesday.

A rare rookie to be nominated for the award, the 22-year-old exhibited maturity beyond his years in his inaugural NHL season, investing himself in a number of important causes throughout the year. An ally to marginalized people and a positive role model to youth, Harris, who is mixed-race himself, was a vocal and engaged spokesperson in many of the organization's community initiatives, using his platform during Black History Month to shine a light on issues impacting the Black community, participating in the Inuit Games with 15 youth from Native Montreal (a community organization) just prior to the team's Indigenous Celebration game, and serving as an active supporter of the team's Pride Night activities.

Harris also took time to participate in various minor hockey events throughout the year, including the Patrice Bergeron ProAM, skating sessions in support of the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation, and minor hockey practices.

Jordan Harris: 2022-23 King Clancy Trophy nominee

The winner of the 2022-23 King Clancy Memorial Trophy will be announced on June 26th during the NHL Awards, chosen by a committee of senior NHL executives led by Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly based on a variety of criteria.

Former captain Saku Koivu was the last Canadiens player to claim the award in 2007 after beating non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and raising funds to purchase the first PET/CT scanner in Montreal through his foundation.
