MONTREAL -- Joel Armia closed out the preliminary round with a remarkable goal at the IIHF World Championship on Tuesday.

The veteran winger capped an outstanding individual effort in the first period with his third tally of the tournament.
And it ultimately proved to be the game-winner in Finland's 3-0 triumph over Czechia.

The Finns finished atop Group B with a 6-0-1-0 record and 19 points.
Armia has five points (3 goals, 2 assists) and a plus-5 differential in seven games heading into the quarterfinals against Slovakia on Thursday.

Elsewhere, prospect Sean Farrell scored his first goal of the tournament in the United States' 4-2 victory over Norway.
The 20-year-old Harvard University product buried an empty-netter with 40 seconds remaining in regulation to seal the win.

Farrell has four points (1 goal, 3 assists) and a plus-1 differential in seven games heading into a quarterfinal matchup versus Switzerland. The Swiss finished atop Group A.
Jordan Harris didn't dress against Norway. He has yet to suit up in the event.
Meanwhile, Josh Anderson was held off the scoresheet in Canada's 7-1 win over France.
The power forward has six points (1 goal, 5 assists) and a plus-2 differential in seven games heading into a quarterfinal tilt versus Sweden.
Prospect Frederik Dichow and Denmark dropped their game 7-1 to Slovakia and didn't qualify for the quarterfinals.
Dichow watched as veteran Sebastian Dahm was between the pipes.
