Carey, Angela Price helping Montreal healthcare heroes

MONTREAL - Carey and Angela Price are helping to fuel Jewish General Hospital (JGH) staffers in the battle against COVID-19.

The couple made a generous donation to the JGH Foundation's Hero Project, a community-led initiative intended to provide much-needed support for frontline doctors, nurses and key essential staff at the JGH.

The Hero Project provides meals, fruit and snacks to frontline workers who collectively offer around-the-clock care to keep the community safe.

Around 160 staffers in the facility's maternity ward and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) will be receiving meals on Friday, courtesy of the Prices.

And the approximately 1,200 frontline workers currently supporting the COVID-19 efforts will also be receiving meals beginning on Monday and throughout next week, courtesy of the Prices as well.

"Even though we aren't currently in Montreal, the city is in our hearts and prayers," said Carey. "We are so thankful for the frontline workers working tirelessly. They are the true heroes."

Back in March, the Prices generously announced a $50,000 donation from their Foundation to the Breakfast Club of Canada's emergency fund to help feed children across Canada during the COVID-19 crisis.

They've been involved with the Club for over five years through a variety of initiatives, including Shooting for the Stars, an event created in collaboration with the Air Canada Foundation that lets children from Indigenous communities enjoy an incredible week-long experience in Montreal with their hockey hero, and an annual fundraiser of the same name held in Kelowna, BC - which to date has raised more than $820,000 to support the Club's mission.

Lining up to help

Canadiens players have stepped up throughout the pandemic to provide assistance to Montreal's incredible healthcare heroes.

Jeff and Julie Petry opened $2,500 tabs at two Montreal restaurants to provide free meals to hospital workers.

Medical professionals could order from Mandy's Gourmet Salads (Westmount location) or Notre-Boeuf-De-Grâce (NDG location) and receive a free meal on the Petrys by showing their hospital IDs.

Brendan Gallagher and Nick Suzuki partnered to purchase meals from local Italian restaurant, La Medusa, for all 2,000 Montreal General Hospital staffers.

Victor Mete partnered with Atlas-Apex Roofing Inc. to purchase 500 meals from Dunn's Famous which were distributed to six different local hospitals.

The Habs also teamed up with La Tablée des Chefs and its partners with Les Cuisines Solidaires on an initiative to help keep food banks in Quebec fully stocked.

Bell Centre chefs - with an assist from Canadiens employees, who are helping prepare and package meals for distribution - will be whipping up 50,000 meals, with a possibility of doubling that total, which will be donated to food banks to help feed the province's most vulnerable citizens.

The organization also launched the Rise Together initiative, which features sweepstakes and auctions.

The proceeds will go to Centraide of Montreal's COVID-19 Emergency Fund, focusing on responding to emergency food needs.

Proceeds will also be used to provide meals to frontline healthcare workers around Montreal.
