BOSTON - The Bruins will be aiming for the third straight victory when they host the New Jersey Devils at TD Garden. Boston will be without winger Jake DeBrusk, who along with three B's staffers, entered COVID-19 protocol on Tuesday morning.
"He was here this morning and he didn't have any symptoms to my knowledge so hopefully it's a quick one like some of the others," said Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy.
Here's everything else you need to know ahead of the 7 p.m. puck on NESN and 98.5 The Sports Hub:

Steen Staying Put

Oskar Steen is hoping to stick around for a while. The 23-year-old winger has not looked out of place in four games with the big club this season, notching three assists, including a nifty helper on Tomas Nosek's third-period tally in Sunday's victory over the Red Wings.
As such, the Sweden native will get another shot against the Devils, marking the first time this season and only the second time in five career call-ups that he'll play in consecutive NHL games. Steen also played back-to-back contests last March 16 and 18.
"It's huge for me to get those games and come up here and play," said Steen. "That keeps me very motivated; I'm still motivated when I'm down there [in Providence]. It's my main goal to get up here and get a regular spot in the lineup. That's what I'm aiming for."
Steen went without a point in three games with Boston last season but admitted that he feels far more at ease this year as he builds on a strong showing with the P-Bruins that his him leading the club with 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 16 games.
"Yes, I do feel more confident right now," said Steen. "I've been up here [a few] times this season. I get more and more confident every time. I feel my game in Providence has been really good, so that's a key too…I don't try to change my game too much, but still, I have a little more offensive game down there…I want to get more offense up here too."
Cassidy, too, sees more conviction in Steen's game, particularly when it comes to being assertive in the offensive end.
"I think Oskar went through a bit of that last year. He was a quieter guy, he did defer a little bit in his call-ups," said Cassidy. "I remember he looked off some good shooting opportunities to make a play. I think this year he's just playing and that's what you need. That's what we try to reenforce all the time - just play. Think about competing hard every shift, understand that the game is a little quicker so you're probably gonna have to make your play a little quicker….you've got to live that and Oskar has.
"He went back down and worked on that in Providence and these last couple games there's no hesitation. You can see it. He's taken to heart what he's learned from when he's been here in his previous recalls. He's had success in the American League.
"That's the other thing, he's got some confidence in his offensive game. Throw all those things together and eventually there comes a time that the player is ready."

Steen shares his thoughts before Bruins vs. Devils

Cassidy added that even if DeBrusk was healthy enough to play on Tuesday night, Steen would have remained in the lineup after his strong showing in Detroit. Steen played with Nosek and Trent Frederic during the 5-1 victory.
"He's been good," said Cassidy. "Bit of a numbers game in the past, managing the roster. But now that there's a few openings with COVID, allows him to stay in there. We discussed it anyway after the game, we thought he did a real good job the other night…I said it before - when you can push from underneath, it always creates competition and makes your team better.
"Oskar's been able to do that every time he's been here. He's come back and got a little more confidence each time. Every game seems to have a look at the front of the net in those dirty areas…been good for him."
With DeBrusk sidelined, Steen will bump up to the third line to play alongside Nick Foligno and Charlie Coyle. Curtis Lazar, who missed Sunday's game in Detroit due to injury, will be back in the lineup as the fourth-line right wing.
"We'll see how [Steen] does on the third line," said Cassidy. "I don't think it matters for him a lot. He's at that age where he's just excited to play and contribute…it's a positive. We want to draft and develop and put some younger people in the lineup and pushing other guys. Hopefully that's the case and it's a consistent thing for Oskar."

Opposing View

The Devils carry a three-game winning streak into Tuesday's contest and are 13-15-5 with 31 points, which ranks them seventh in the Metro Division. New Jersey is paced by Jesper Bratt, who has notched 29 points in 32 games. Bratt is also tied with Andreas Johnsson for the team lead with nine goals.
Former Bruins blue liner Dougie Hamilton and New Jersey captain Nico Hischier have chipped in 20 points apiece, though neither will play against the Bruins. Hamilton suffered a broken jaw during New Jersey's win in Washington on Sunday, while Hischier is dealing with a lower-body injury.
Jack Hughes, who missed time earlier this season due to injury, was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week on Monday after collecting eight points (three goals, five assists) during the Devils' three-game winning streak. For the season, the 20-year-old, has eight goals and 16 points in 16 games.
The Devils placed forwards Yegor Sharangovich and Pavel Zacha in COVID-19 protocol on Tuesday afternoon.

B's to host Devils for Military Appreciation Night

Wait, There's More

  • Linus Ullmark will make the start between the pipes.
  • Tuukka Rask remains a full participant in Bruins practices with Cassidy saying that the club's all-time winningest goalie - who remains an unrestricted free agent as he rehabs from offseason hip surgery - is making progress. "He looks good. I've watched him for years," said Cassidy. "Certainly, looks the part out there right now. He's coming along very well. You're never sure with surgery how it will go, complications, etcetera, put the work in. Seen him in the gym every morning here…clearly he's taking it seriously and wants to rehab as quickly as possible. Credit him for his work ethic through this whole thing. Looks good on the ice. Time will tell how that translates."
  • Bruins assistant coach Kevin Dean was among the three club staff members to enter COVID-19 protocol on Tuesday. With Dean away from the team, Joe Sacco will run the defense.
  • The Bruins will celebrate Military Appreciation Night throughout the game against the Devils. More than $25,000 in tickets have been donated to military members and their families through the Bruins Seats for Soldiers campaign. Brandon Carlo, Connor Clifton, Charlie Coyle, Nick Foligno, Derek Forbort, Trent Frederic, Matt Grzelcyk, Karson Kuhlman, Charlie McAvoy, Mike Reilly, Craig Smith, and Jeremy Swayman all offered donations.
