Brendan Perlini was a healthy scratch on Sunday and sat out the Blackhawks 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. For the 22-year-old forward, it was a chance to reset.
"I try to improve no matter what the situation is," he said. "For me, I got some good work in, worked on some stuff and I'm ready to go when the coach calls my name again."
It would be no surprise if Perlini's world is still spinning after the Nov. 25 trade brought him to Chicago.
"I mean, I haven't really gone through it enough," he said. "I've only ever been traded once before and that was in junior when I was 16. This is a far superior circumstance. I'm just trying to improve with different things every day and learn off the guys, obviously some unbelievable players. Yeah, the team is going through a skid but you take a look around the room at Toews, Kane and all these guys who have won things and have done tremendous things in the game. Those are the guys you want to be around and learn off and improve from. For me, regardless of whatever the situation is I'm always going to try to improve and better myself."
As for what the Blackhawks want to see from him when he does make his return to the lineup, Head Coach Jeremy Colliton said, "I just want him to have a little more urgency without the puck. Skate, work, work away from the puck and I then I think he'll put himself in good situations."
