Stars Acquire 26th Overall Selection from CHI to Select Jake Oettinger

CHICAGO, Illinois- Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill and Director of Amateur Scouting Joe McDonnell selected goaltender Jake Oettinger with the 26th overall selection in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft held at United Center. The Stars acquired the 26th selection from the Chicago Blackhawks for the 29th selection in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft and the 70th overall selection in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft.
Oettinger, 18, completed his freshman season at Boston University in 2016-17 with a 21-11-3 record and four shutouts. His .927 save percentage ranked 10th in the nation and his 2.11 goals against average finished 12th. He was named as a Hockey East Second Team All-Star and was also named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. He also earned a gold medal representing the United States at the 2017 World Junior Championship.

The 6-foot-4, 218-pound native of Lakeville, Minnesota was a member of the United States Development Program prior to attending Boston University. He twice competed at the U-18 World Junior Championships, winning gold in 2015 and bronze in 2016.
Oettinger was the second selection for the Stars on the evening, as they used the third overall pick on defenseman Miro Heiksanen.
The Stars currently possess the 29th pick of the first round, which will take place later tonight, and six picks tomorrow: one in the 2nd round (39th overall), one in the third round (70th overall), one in the fourth round (101st overall), one in the fifth round (132nd overall), one in the sixth round (163rd overall) and one in the seventh round (194th overall).
