It's crunch time for the Texas Stars as they try to fight their way into the AHL postseason.
The Stars (32-29-7) have eight games left in the schedule, and they are in a tight, four-team battle for the fourth and final spot in the AHL's Central Division.
The Stars, who lost two of three games this past week, are in seventh place in the division, but just one point behind fourth-place Manitoba, the team they host Wednesday night. Also, another top Dallas prospect has joined the Texas roster.
Here is the latest on the AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars.

Wednesday, March 20: Texas 6, Grand Rapids 3

Colton Hargrove scored three goals as the Stars opened a four-game homestand with a 6-3 win over Grand Rapids at H-E-B Center Wednesday.
Gavin Bayreuther and Erik Condra both had one goal and one assist, Denis Gurianov scored one goal, and Justin Dowling chipped in two assists for Texas. Four Dallas prospects - Ty Dellandrea, Rhett Gardner, Joe Cecconi, and Josh Melnick - all made their pro debuts for Texas. Landon Bow stopped 22 of 25 shots.

Friday, March 22: Chicago 4, Texas 1

Texas fell to 1-1-0 on its homestand, losing 4-1 to Central Division-leading Chicago, 4-1, Friday. Michael Mersch scored the lone goal for the Stars, who had a five-game home points streak snapped. Landon Bow stopped 23 of 26 shots.
The two teams were tied 1-1 late in the first, but Chicago scored five minutes before the first intermission to take a 2-1 lead, made it a 3-1 game in the second and then sealed the win with an empty-net goal late in the third.

Saturday, March 23: Grand Rapids 3, Texas 2

Nick Caamano gave Texas a 2-1 lead early in the third period, but Grand Rapids tied the game with 7:55 remaining and then broke the tie with 4:53 left to defeat Texas, 3-2, in Cedar Park Friday night.
It was the fourth loss in the last six games for Texas. Joel Hanley also scored for Texas and Landon Bow stopped 20 of 23 shots in goal.

New prospects suit up for Texas

The Dallas prospects Texas added last week - forwards Ty Dellandrea, Rhett Gardner, and Josh Melnick, and defenseman Joe Cecconi suited up for all three games last week.
First game I was a little nervous, a little scared to go out there. I just didn't know what was going to happen. A lot of the unknown," Cecconi told the Texas Stars official site.
Cecconi, who played four years at the University of Michigan, picked up his first pro point -- an assist -- in Saturday's game against Grand Rapids.
"Hands down [the biggest change from college to pro] is it is faster," Cecconi told the Texas official site. "Guys are bigger, faster, stronger. The forecheck is harder to break out against, so that is the biggest adjustment for me."
All four players handled their first few games well, but it was an adjustment. Dellandrea came in from junior hockey and the others from college, jumping right into the pros and into a ramped up playoff race.
With Texas battling some injury/illness issues and guys like Joel L'Esperance and Justin Dowling in the NHL, the new guys were not being eased into the mix. Dellandrea, Gardner, and Melnick all played center Saturday against a good Grand Rapids team along with Diego Cuglietta, whom Texas had just signed to an amateur tryout out of college.
Our four centermen tonight were all rookies," Texas coach Derek Laxdal told media after 3-2 loss to Grand Rapids Saturday. " You are throwing them into a playoff race and it's great experience. I thought they did a decent job of managing the game. It's an all-stakes-in race to get in the playoffs, so these kids are learning at a fast pace.
"Give them a lot of credit, they battled, but at the end of the day I think experience probably ended up winning the game for [Grand Rapids]."
