5 takeaways: Stars confident they can build off Saturday's performance

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The effort was there, but unfortunately the result wasn't. The Stars did a lot of good things on Saturday night at the Shark Tank but couldn't get more than one goal despite numerous chances.
The players aren't in a state of heavy gloom though. They know it was simply "one of those nights."
Here are the five takeaways of the game:

'THAT'S PROBABLY THE BEST ROAD GAME WE'VE PLAYED ALL YEAR'

In the end, a loss is a loss, but the Stars played arguably their best road game of the season.
There's no question the performance Saturday was far better than Thursday's in LA, but the result was still the same. With that being said, the Stars can hopefully build off their game against the Sharks moving forward.
Their next 10 games, beginning Tuesday with a home-and-home series against St. Louis, are against Central Division opponents. After taking a few steps backwards on this road trip, this stretch of games will be enormous.

'YOU HAVE TO LEARN FROM IT'

Those were the words of Ryan Suter, who said the team must take what worked (and what didn't) and come into next Tuesday's game with some desperation.
They started the game on time against San Jose, something they were able to do over their seven-game winning streak. With their next two games against the Blues, the Stars will look to regain their mojo against a team above them in the standings.

POWER PLAY GOES COLD AGAIN

The Stars had their opportunities with the man advantage to get back into the game but failed to capitalize on any of the three power plays they were given.
It marked the second consecutive game in which the Stars didn't register a power-play goal, going 0-for-6 over that span.

COLD POWER PLAY, COLD OFFENSE

For a team that had a run of scoring early and often, the offense has dried up over the past two games. The Stars have scored just once in six periods of play, and it came nearly at the halfway mark of the third period against San Jose.
Now, they should've had at least two or three more goals on Saturday, but they couldn't find a way to get it done.
Going 0-for-6 on the power play over the past two games certainly didn't help.

NO HINTZ FORCES LINE JUGGLING

Roope Hintz' absence not only broke up the trio that includes Joe Pavelski and Jason Robertson, but it also changed up the other three lines. Pavelski skated on right wing with Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov, while Robertson flanked Radek Faksa and Michael Raffl.
Dallas' leading goal scorer had played every game up to this point but wasn't able to suit up because of a non-COVID related illness.
