What a wild night in Calgary. The Stars - for the most part - played a solid game. They jumped out to a lead and held a high-flying Flames squad under wraps for most of the game. Though they bent, they didn't break. That was crucial.
Miro Heiskanen had a monster game, Jamie Benn came up huge in the clutch and the Stars snapped a four-game losing streak with a win against a tough opponent.

Here are the five takeaways from the game.

WELCOME BACK, GURY

After watching Tuesday's game in Winnipeg from the press box, Denis Gurianov returned to the lineup Thursday and wasted no time leaving his mark. He was a difference maker at both ends of the ice and on 5-on-5, something head coach Rick Bowness wants more of from the 24-year-old forward.
You could see the relief on his face after he opened the scoring with a power-play goal to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.
He's had his ups and downs throughout his NHL career, but Thursday was a good night.

MIRO PUTS ON A SHOW

The Flames are going to burn the tape on Heiskanen from Thursday's game because he put on an absolute clinic. Calgary didn't seem to have an answer for the 22-year-old defenseman all night, and it showed. Heiskanen made things happen on nearly every shift, including his beautiful backdoor pass to Gurianov for the game's opening goal.
Whether it was his spin moves along the boards to shake off a forechecker or cutting to the inside to give himself time and space to shoot, Heiskanen was a treat to watch all game.
He finished the game with three assists in a game-high 25:22 TOI.
Heiskanen's team-leading 10 points places him in a tie for fourth among NHL defensemen in scoring. Only New York's Adam Fox, Nashville's Roman Josi and Anaheim's Kevin Shattenkirk have more with 11 apiece.

COMEAU MAKES UP FOR PENALTY

Blake Comeau knew immediately his high-stick on Johnny Gaudreau wasn't going to bode well for Dallas. Already down a man, Comeau's infraction put the Stars in a 5-on-3 disadvantage in the closing minutes of the second period. Sure enough, Matthew Tkachuk made them pay to put the Flames up 2-1.
However, once Comeau exited the box, he connected on a chip pass from Michael Raffl to tie the game with five seconds remaining on the clock. It marked Comeau's first goal of the season, and boy was it a big one.

BENN'S MILESTONE GOAL

With the game winner, Benn moved into first place on the franchise's all-time list for overtime goals with 10. It was a great shot that beat Jacob Markstrom glove side.
All of a sudden, the captain's got two goals in two games after going eight in a row without one. After the game, Tyler Seguin said it's a great sign when Benn's scoring goals like he did against the Flames.

FINDING A WAY TO WIN

Would it have been nice to see the Stars finish this game off in regulation? Of course. But in the end, a win is a win, and it snapped a four-game losing streak. They found a way to earn two points against a very good Flames team that had reeled off six straight wins before their overtime loss on Tuesday to Nashville.
It sets the Stars up nicely to finish the road trip on a winning note if they can take care of business on Sunday in Vancouver.
