Winter Classic takes Stars back to where it all began

  • The Stars and Predators will be making their outdoor game debut, becoming the 24th and 25th NHL teams to take part in one of the marquee dates on the NHL calendar.
  • There have been 28 total regular-season outdoor NHL games to date: 11 Winter Classics, 10 Stadium Series, five Heritage Classics, one Centennial Classic and one NHL100 Classic.
  • The crowd at Cotton Bowl Stadium for the 2020 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic is expected to rank as the second-largest for an NHL game in the League's 102-year history.
  • It is set to eclipse the current #2 (76,126), set on New Year's Day a year ago in the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic between the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend. The biggest crowd in NHL history remains the 105,491 that packed Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor for the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
  • Overall, the Stars feature six players who have participated in a prior outdoor NHL game, while the Predators counter with eight skaters plus head coach Peter Laviolette.
  • Stars forwards Andrew Cogliano and Corey Perry both scored as members of the Anaheim Ducks in a 3-0 win over Los Angeles in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Dodger Stadium.
  • Other Stars players with outdoor game experience includes forward Blake Comeau(1 GP, 0-1=1), center Joe Pavelski (1 GP, 0-0=0), defenseman Roman Polak(2 GP, 0-1=1) and defenseman Andrej Sekera (1 GP, 0-0=0).
