Every year, one of the best nights at The Tank is when we switch from 'the Sharks' to 'los Tiburones.'
Los Tiburones Night presented by Milagro Tequila was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 5 when the Anaheim Ducks came to town. The night is meant to celebrate the Sharks diverse fan base, San Jose's Hispanic roots and to highlight some of the best in our community.
The most notable part of the night is the community-sourced Los Tibs design. A local artist is chosen each year to design the logo that appears on the warmup jerseys and arena giveaway item.

This year's artist, Jorge "J.Duh" Camacho, was inspired by his Nicaraguan heritage while concepting the design. He used a volcano, as it appears in a lot of designs in Central America and wanted to incorporate a Hammerhead Shark to bring attention to the fact that they're endangered, as well as help his design standout among past years'.

The warmup jerseys with Jorge's design were worn by Sharks players, signed, and put up for auction with the help of the Sharks Foundation. This year's beneficiary was the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley whose mission is empowering the lives and futures of Latinos in Silicon Valley.

The night hit close to home for our own Matt Nieto, who is Mexican-American. He spoke with Ted Ramey (

) about what his Hispanic heritage means to him ahead of our Los Tibs celebration on Saturday.

While Nieto was highlighted as part of our on-ice team, we also celebrated our Team Teal members behind the scenes during the Los Tiburones game.
Norma Hernandez, who is a cleaning specialist for the team, was asked what her Hispanic heritage meant to her. "As a Latina, it is important to me that Latinos and Spanish speaking communities get equal representation in sports and the media. Hispanic Heritage Month allows us to feel acknowledged and welcomed. I feel a sense of pride when I am represented."
The in-game entertainment was also Los Tibs-themed with performances from Ballet Folklorico, Johan Solteo and Gabrielle Sepulveda who sang the National Anthem.

And who doesn't love hearing goal calls in Spanish? We brought back the fan-favorite Spanish audio broadcast of the game with Jesus Zarate and Amaury Pi-Gonzalez doing play-by-play. Carlos Cesar Rivera also provided Spanish announcements in-arena as the public address announcer.
