SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that, in partnership with Tico Sports, all of the Sharks remaining home regular season and any potential home playoff games will include a Spanish language audio broadcast. The additional broadcasts will begin on March 25 against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Spanish audio call can be heard on the Sharks + SAP Center App and via the SAP setting on NBC Sports California's television broadcast.
Calling the action will be Bay Area resident Ambrosio Rico, who has extensive experience calling professional sports, including six seasons (2001-05) as color analyst for the Oakland Raiders Spanish broadcast.
For the past three seasons, the Sharks have hosted the extremely popular Los Tiburones night, an evening to celebrate the proud Hispanic heritage and population of San Jose. The night includes specially-designed Los Tiburones jerseys that Sharks players wear during pre-game warm-ups that are later auctioned to fans with net proceeds benefitting the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley. Fans in attendance also receive replica Los Tiburones jerseys upon entering SAP Center.
"We're extremely excited to build off the growing success of our Spanish broadcasts from our annual Los Tiburones Nights," said Vice President of Media Relations & Broadcasting Scott Emmert. "Our partnership with TICO will assist us in expanding the excitement of Sharks hockey to new audiences via the Sharks + SAP Center App and our television broadcast."
In addition to the radio broadcast, the partnership with Tico will include Spanish language social media and web elements (sjsharks.com/lostiburones). Each game will be "live" tweeted from the new @LosTiburones Twitter account (https://twitter.com/lostiburones), along with pre- and post-game content. The Tico team will also produce feature stories and game previews to be posted on sjsharks.com throughout the rest of the season, as well as managing and posting to the other @LosTiburones social media accounts, including Instagram and Facebook.
