The San Jose Sharks named Mike Grier the fifth general manager in franchise history yesterday morning during a live press conference at SAP Center.
Grier played for the Sharks from 2006-2009 and is the NHL's first Black general manager.

For the occasion we thought we'd let him announce the exciting news himself!

Naturally, the larger San Jose Sharks and Bay Area community wanted to join in the welcoming of Grier back to the franchise.

His former boss, and we think still current friend, Chris Drury, wished him luck on the new endeavor.

General managing runs in the Grier family. His brother Chris, who is GM of the NFL's Miami Dolphins, gave his unbiased stamp of approval on the move.

More of Grier's former teams congratulated him on the new gig too.

Becoming the first Black GM in the National Hockey League is a momentus occasion and the hockey world and many big names showed their support for Grier in his new role.
