Arvidsson nets hat trick in 4-3 OT win over Columbus

COLUMBUS -- Viktor Arvidsson completed his fourth NHL hat trick with 1:00 left in overtime to give the Los Angeles Kings a 4-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Friday.

Arvidsson scored on a breakaway after Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner had a goal overturned at 2:04 when video review determined Zach Werenski was offside.
"I was fresh since I came off the bench, and they had been out there for a while, so I was kind of confident that I could beat [Werenski]," Arvidsson said. "I guess he was really tired. I just tried to read what the goalie does and try to find where he is, try to fake something and show something else, so it worked out."

The Kings trailed in the third period before Dustin Brown scored at 3:49 to make it 3-2 and Arvidsson's second goal of the game tied it 3-3 at 16:14.
Jonathan Quick made 26 saves for the Kings (30-19-7), who had lost two after winning five in a row.
Elvis Merzlikins made 39 saves for the Blue Jackets (28-25-2), who had won five of seven.
"We get to OT there, think we win, and you don't," Columbus coach Brad Larsen said. "Tough to swallow right now."
The Blue Jackets have had eight goals overturned this season after reviews for offside.
"I'm done talking about the offside," Larsen said. "There is nothing more to dissect. We went offside. They took it back."
The Blue Jackets trailed in the second period before scoring the fastest three goals in their history, 46 seconds apart, for a 3-1 lead.
Arvidsson gave the Kings a 1-0 lead at 14:00 of the second.
Patrik Laine tied it 1-1 at 15:34 from the left circle after the puck came off the end boards. He has scored 24 points (15 goals, nine assists) in the past 15 games.
"[Laine] has been clutch for us, scoring goals," Blue Jackets forward Sean Kuraly said. "The game was lopsided for them for a while until he got open. That that made us think 'We are in this thing.'"

LAK@CBJ: Blue Jackets rapid scoring gives them lead

Oliver Bjorkstrand made it 2-1 at 15:59 from the left side after a pass by Kuraly. He has scored in three straight games and four of the past five.
Justin Danforth extended the lead to 3-1 at 16:20 at the edge of the crease.
Merzlikins said he felt he allowed the Kings back into the game. The goal by Brown came off the left wall and the goalie juggled and dropped the puck before it went over the line.
"I could blame myself for the second goal. I just messed up," he said. "I'm tired [of] letting in four goals a game. That's not me. This is a learning process. I have to learn. This is the best league in the world. These kinds of goals happen every night."
Los Angeles assistant Trent Yawney said he was not surprised by the comeback.
"There's a lot of character in the room," Yawney said. "I thought the guys stuck with it. They were positive. [Brown's] goal was a big goal. It was a little bit of relief on the bench, and they could feel that maybe there was an opportunity."
