The Ottawa Senators enter play on Tuesday as one of just four undefeated NHL teams, along with the Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, and Anaheim Ducks. After a win on Monday night in Boston, the Senators flew to Detroit, where they’ll play Tuesday night.
Tim Stützle scored twice on Monday in a span of just 1:43, the first goal coming on a penalty kill and the second goal just moments after the end of the penalty. Stützle also sprang Drake Batherson for a breakaway, collecting three points in total on the night.
“I think just keep playing our game, we’re really confident, and if we keep playing the same way like we ended last year, I think we have a good chance to win every night,” said Stützle after Monday’s win.
“We’ve just got to keep doing it over and over, and play as a whole full team. It’s been a lot of fun so far, all throughout camp, worked really hard together, and it just carried through to the games.”
Stützle enters Tuesday night riding a two-game point streak, while Michael Amadio enters riding a two-game goal streak. With a goal in Detroit, Amadio would join Daniel Alfredsson (in 2007) and Bob Kudelski (in 1993-94) as the only Senators to score a goal in each of the team’s first three games of the season.
“Same thing as tonight, just come ready to play from the drop of the puck, and just make sure that we’re doing all of the little things right, and making sure we’re working hard,” said Amadio of the team’s mindset heading into Detroit.
“I think we harped on being on our system, and guys have been playing to that, I think. Out of the gate, it’s tough, but the quicker you can get to it, I think the quicker you can have success, and we’ve been able to do that the last two games. Now, it’s just about staying consistent with it,” said Batherson after the game.
“Obviously, another big game, a divisional game, so we’ll try and get some rest tonight and we’ll be right back at it tomorrow.”
