Where Are They Now: Colton Orr

After getting his start with the Boston Bruins at age 23, forward Colton Orr established himself as a NHLer with the Rangers beginning in the 2005-06 season. Orr would become a mainstay in the Big Apple when he appeared in 53 games with the Blueshirts in 2006-07, and would spend the next two seasons with the Rangers as the team's key physical force.
With his playing days behind him, NYRangers.com caught up with the 34-year-old to talk about his time in New York, how he's spending his retirement and more.

You spent parts of four seasons with the Rangers. What moment sticks out to you the most?
CO: "Just being in the playoffs. When you make the playoffs around here, New York is such an exciting city. Just being part of that was one of the best memories here."
You were with the Rangers during an exciting period when the team became one of the more successful clubs in the NHL. Is there pride in being part of the teams the really brought the Rangers back to prominence, something they've continued to be through today?
CO: "We were able to have some good teams and vets had good seasons here. It was fun to be part of that. The fans always get behind that. It's good to see the organization has turned around."

Do you keep in touch with former teammates from your time in New York?
CO: "I keep in touch with a few guys. You always see them around, especially being around the rink. You see a lot of guys."
You were a player who stood up for his teammates and we were willing to engage with opponents physically when it was needed. How much pride did you take in filling that role in the dressing room?
CO: "I took my role very seriously. I wanted to go out there and make sure my teammates felt safe and that I could go out there and make sure they were able to play their game. I'd look after them no matter what happened. I enjoyed my role and my time in New York and being able to do that. The fans really enjoyed it and supported me when I'd go out there. People know it's a tough role and my teammates and everyone really supported me really throughout all those years."
You hung up the skates about a year ago. How has retirement been and what's keeping you busy?
CO: "It's a bit of a change. You don't have that same routine and schedule that you had all those years. But it's been nice. I've got my wife, my daughter and my son at home now who are four and seven months. It's keeping us busy. Just enjoying the time as a family and being there for them while they grow up. It's nice."
Do you still live in the area?
CO: "I'm in Westchester. Close by. I met my wife when I played here. We stayed in the area and we really enjoy it here."
