mayer jockey

In the latest episode of the Predators Official Podcast, hosts Darren McFarland and Kara Hammer chatted with NHL Chief Content Officer Steve Mayer about the NHL Draft and Awards coming to Nashville this summer.
The energy in Nashville is unmatched, and Mayer expects that to be evident when the city hosts the two League events in June. Nashville, which last hosted the Draft in 2003, has only continued to evolve into the entertainment hub we now know.

"The Nashville fan knows how to put on a party," Mayer said. "Everybody around knows how to add to the party. Everybody we interact with in Nashville just gets it."
In Nashville, one can find the perfect marriage of music and sports - two industries that have hit their peak.
"Half the battle of putting on a great event is working with people who understand what makes something special," Mayer said. "[The people] on the ground in Nashville, who we work with all the time, are the best at what they do."
The atmosphere in Nashville and its electric fanbase are the reasons the NHL keeps wanting to come back. When putting on events in the Music City, the NHL strives to improve every year - and with that, there are high expectations.

"When you go to Nashville, what's going to make it special?" Mayer asks. "What's going to make it different?"
For these events to make a lasting impression, he explains, it is important to play into the uniqueness of the city. The Draft in particular brings every NHL team to town, giving the locals the perfect opportunity to show off.
"In Nashville, the bar is raised," Mayer said. "This is the first time we've done two events, The Draft and the Awards, in the same city in many, many years."
