EDMONTON, AB -The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) is delighted to announce a donation of approximately $100,000 of food, which adds up to more than 7,500 pounds, to Edmonton's Food Bank.
The donation is the first investment from the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation's successful RE/MAX online 50/50 program launched for Edmonton Oilers 2020 playoff games and continued for the Stanley Cup Final which has helped create a legacy from Edmonton's Hub City hosting of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Through the generous support of hockey fans across Alberta, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation's RE/MAX online 50/50 set records for total dollars raised which are now being invested back into the community, focusing on those that need help the most. Each pound of food donated serves as one meal for the community's most vulnerable during these uncertain times.

The EOCF has a longstanding relationship with Edmonton's Food Bank, having partnered on the Rock and Wrap it Up program since 2010. Since inception, the partnership has seen the EOCF donate more than 84,000 pounds of food, which has created more than 59,000 meals. Rogers Place has donated 44,508 pounds since opening in 2016, creating 25,579 meals for the Edmonton community.
In 2016, the EOCF also purchased a new refrigerated truck for Edmonton's Food Bank to assist with the collection of perishable food. Earlier this year, when NHL legends Wayne Gretzky and Alexander Ovechkin played against each other in NHL 20, fans had the opportunity to participate and make a donation to Edmonton's Food Bank, as well as a charity in Washington.
"Edmonton's Food Bank is a longstanding partner of the EOCF and serves a vital role in helping feed Edmontonians in need," said Natalie Minckler, Executive Director of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation. "COVID-19 and the current health pandemic has created a great deal of turmoil and anxiety in our community for many individuals and families. There is nothing more important than food security and when friends and neighbours in our community are in need, it is important for all of us to step and help out where we can. Leading up to Thanksgiving weekend, we hope this donation of food will allow families to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones."
"Edmonton's Food Bank is a central warehouse for a network of over 250 agencies, shelters, schools and food depots offering food services to people in need. We help feed individuals, families and groups including IFSSA, The Salvation Army, Hope Mission, Boyle Street, etc.," said Marjorie Bencz, Executive Director of Edmonton's Food Bank. "This donation will help provide that festive meal during Thanksgiving and well after. We are truly grateful for this kind donation and the impact it will have on Edmontonians in need."
"OEG was extremely proud to be chosen as NHL Hub City for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The community came together to deliver a safe and successful experience for NHL players and staff, and for Albertans," said Tim Shipton, Senior Vice President of Communications for Oilers Entertainment Group and Hub City co-chair. "For us to be able to partner with Edmonton's Food Bank to help feed families in our community is a great legacy of our Hub City hosting and a way for us to say thank-you for all the support we receive."
