EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) 50/50 raffle is now live from today until Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11:00 PM after the Oilers face off against the St. Louis Blues at Rogers Place, with the jackpot building each day to another life-changing total amount.
The current 50/50 raffle is in support of Free Play for Kids as they work to give marginalized youth the opportunity to play in a safe, accessible and inclusive environment.
Free Play for Kids is a free after-school club that partners with Edmonton's most socially vulnerable schools, and many of the kids in their programs are refugees, new Canadians, or Indigenous youth who cannot afford the pay-to-play model of sports.
Edmonton Oilers defencemen and alternate captain, Darnell Nurse, is a Free Play ambassador who spends time mentoring participants and his Captain of the Week program sees Free Play kids awarded with an opportunity to watch a game at Rogers Place and meet him.
"Every kid should have access to sport and mentorship, and that's exactly what Free Play for Kids provides," Nurse said. "As a Free Play ambassador, I've been lucky to see these programs in action and meet the incredible kids who are part of them. Free Play for Kids not only uses play but also uses community to bring everyone together, and I hope we can bring all of Oil Country together through the 50/50 to make Free Play's programs available to more kids than ever before."
