"We had our chances to score," said Maroon. "I had two blatant chances that should have been in, but we got a couple unlucky bounces, a couple posts last night. I think they capitalized on their chances and outworked us to get to the front of the net and scored the ugly goals."
"Patty has been good for us all year and he usually doesn't miss open nets like that but sometimes that happens in the course of the season," said Oilers winger Milan Lucic. "We just weren't able to get that second one or gain some momentum after that."
For the Oilers, the loss is a learning moment as they try to avoid frustration with lack of scoring or missed opportunities. They'll get their next chance to click when the Pittsburgh Penguins visit Rogers Place on Friday.
"I think yesterday's game is an example of this time of year, you can't let frustration kick in," Lucic said. "You've got to believe in your game plan that it's going to give you the results you want. For us, we've got to turn the page and obviously address the things we need to do better going into Friday night."
