Cody Eakin equalized the score shorthanded before Max Pacioretty and Jonathan Marchessault put the Golden Knights ahead by a pair within the first five minutes of the middle frame.
"We just have to be mentally stronger," McDavid said post-game. "If something goes wrong, we have to be able to brush it off and move on. We give up a bad shorthanded goal and it kind of deflated us. They were able to capitalize on two more and then we're behind the eight-ball.
"We have to find a way to limit those lows."
Goaltender Cam Talbot would allow six goals on 30 shots, falling to 0-5-0 in his last five games as he still waits for his 100th win as an Oiler.
"Any time a goaltender gives up six, the group is looking for another save," Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan said. "But we were porous around him. There were a number of pucks where we were standing around and watching, and they just chopped at it and the puck found a way into our net."
The defeat condemns the Blue and Orange to six losses in their past seven games and a record of 9-10-1.
"We have to realize by playing the right way and paying attention to details, our offence is going to come," Oilers forward Alex Chiasson said. "I think right now we might be on the other side of the puck trying to wait for a mistake or a bounce to come our way, but right now they aren't coming.
"We've got to come back to the foundation of our game and make sure we play the right way for 60 minutes. We haven't been able to do that for the last little bit, and every time we go to sleep for a couple minutes the puck ends up in the back of our net."
Chiasson's power-play goal in the second period made it seven goals on the season for the Montreal, Quebec product. Leon Draisaitl had a goal and assist, and Drake Caggiula recorded two assists.
Just 52 seconds into the game, it would be that man McDavid providing the early spark for the Oilers once again. Gliding away from goal with a Vegas player on his hip, the Oilers captain still found a way to get a stick on Matt Benning's tip and deceive Marc-Andre Fleury, who was caught sliding the wrong direction. Caggiula would record the secondary helper on McDavid's 12th goal of the season.

VGK@EDM: McDavid makes remarkable redirection

The Golden Knights equalized from a tip in front by their own talisman William Karlsson with 7:03 on the clock, deflecting Shea Theodore's point shot past Talbot to level the score 1-1.
The Vegas penalty kill, ranked third in the NHL this season at 85.2 percent (51-for-59), couldn't keep out the Oilers first power-play opportunity of the night when Chiasson chipped home Draisaitl's rebound for his second goal in as many nights to restore the Oilers advantage.
The Oilers carried a 2-1 lead into the break, winning the shot battle 10-6 in the first period.
The hosts would get another power play 40 seconds into the middle frame, but the man-advantage would go the way of the guilty party after Eakin sniped his third shorthanded goal of the season.

POST-GAME RAW | McDavid 11.18.18

Vegas was in the lead 1:32 later by way of a bad bounce off an Oilers defenceman and over Talbot that would go down as Max Pacioretty's goal. Then, a quick power play for the Golden Knights was converted by Jonathan Marchessault 30 seconds after that to put the visitors ahead by a pair in the blink of an eye.
Talbot would be beaten three times on 12 shots in the second period with the Golden Knights ahead 4-2 through 40 minutes.
Marchessault added his second 32 minutes into the third, redirecting Colin Miller's low shot from the point to extend Vegas' lead to 5-2. They'd make it five unanswered goals 2:30 later when Marchessault played provider setting up Reilly Smith in the slot.
Leon Draisaitl ended Vagas' streak of goals on a two-on-one with McDavid, sniping a beauty over the right shoulder of Fleury as consolation.
The Oilers are off to California on Monday, beginning a three-game west-coast road trip in San Jose on Tuesday.
