Wild rally past Golden Knights with two late goals in 26 seconds

ST. PAUL, Minn. --Jonas Brodin scored with 1:06 left in the third period, and the Minnesota Wild rallied with two quick goals to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 6-5 at Xcel Energy Center on Monday.

Brodin scored from the left point through traffic for Minnesota's second goal in 26 seconds. Kirill Kaprizov tied it 5-5 on a rebound in front with 1:32 left.
"That's about as tough as they get, that kind of loss," Vegas coach Peter DeBoer said. "It doesn't happen very often. We've been pretty good in those situations in my time here. I guess the only silver lining, or a couple silver linings, are we worked hard to put ourselves in a position to win with a couple minutes left, did a lot of good things.
"Thankfully it's not two weeks from now in a [Stanley Cup] Playoff series because that would, obviously, be a lot harder to take. As tough as this one is to take."

Nick Bonino had two goals and an assist, and Kevin Fiala had a goal and an assist for Minnesota (33-14-4), which has won nine of its past 11. Cam Talbot made 27 saves.
Mark Stone and Alec Martinez each had a goal and an assist for Vegas (36-13-2), which has lost two of its past three. Robin Lehner made 26 saves.
Vegas is two points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche for first place in the eight-team Honda West Division. Minnesota is two points behind Colorado for second.
"In a race like this, it's obviously huge to deny them points," Bonino said. "As a group, we're pretty sure at some point we're going to have to go through Vegas or Colorado. Obviously, we'd love to continue to move up the standings, but wherever we end up, we just want to focus on these five (remaining regular-season) games, playing the right way, flipping the playoff switch now, getting our mind right and just playing the right way all the way through."

The Wild defeated the Golden Knights for the fifth straight time and are 5-1-1 against them this season. The teams play for the final time Wednesday.
Joel Eriksson Ek gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead on the rush at 3:36 of the first period with a shot that went through Lehner's five-hole.
Shea Theodore tied it 1-1 at 4:29 from the right face-off circle off a cross-ice pass from Stone. The Wild challenge for goaltender interference was unsuccessful.
On the resulting power play, Martinez scored with a wrist shot from the right circle to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead at 6:05.
"I have to continue to play for my team," Talbot said. "… For [Eriksson Ek] to get a big goal to start the game and get the crowd into it, that call really deflates us. And then they score on the power play and all of a sudden it's a 2-1 hockey game for them.
"But I've got to keep my composure back there and play for the other 19 guys on the bench. I did everything in my power to not let it affect me and go out there and make the saves that I needed to. I still wasn't happy with my overall game tonight, but I thought I played pretty well in the third, and guys did a heck of a job coming back and battling for me."
Bonino tied it 2-2 at 7:48 on the rebound of Matt Dumba's shot that went off Lehner's glove.
Alex Tuch put Vegas ahead 3-2 at 12:20. Peyton Krebs, making his NHL debut, assisted on the goal for his first point.
Stone increased the lead to 4-2 from the high slot at 6:48 of the second period.
Bonino deflected a Jared Spurgeon shot for a 5-on-3 power-play goal to cut it to 4-3 at 8:44.
Jonathan Marchessault made it 5-3 at 16:04 off a pass from Martinez on a 3-on-2.
"When we forced them to play defense, that's where we excelled," said Stone, the Golden Knights captain. "We scored five goals tonight and the main reason was we were playing in their end. When we got caught out in our zone, them buzzing around, that's when they were tough."
Fiala cut it to 5-4 on a rebound in front at 10:49 of the third.
"We all enjoy being around each other. We're having fun," said Spurgeon, the Wild captain. "And each day we come to the rink, we're working hard and, like I said, enjoying it. So we're trying to play these games out as the key games and go into playoffs playing well and everyone feeling good about themselves. So winning is always fun."

NOTES: Vegas forward Max Pacioretty did not play. He missed the third period of a 3-2 overtime win at the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday because of an undisclosed injury. … Golden Knights forward Nicolas Roy had an assist and one shot on goal in 12:11 of ice time in his return after missing three games with an undisclosed injury. … Vegas is 24-2-0 this season when leading after two periods. … Kaprizov has scored 10 points (eight goals, two assists) in his past nine games. … Fiala has scored 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in his past 19 games. … Wild forward Victor Rask scored his 200th NHL point in his 454th game with an assist on Fiala's goal.
