"I just do whatever [in the shootout]," McDavid said. "I should probably plan it out a little bit better. I just do what feels right, I guess."
McDavid had been 0-for-4 in shootout attempts.
"I knew he was going to stickhandle a lot and I thought I had it," Bishop said. "He put it right between my shoulder and glove. I just kind of tried to be patient, I didn't really go down. I thought I had it and, obviously, he put it in a good spot."
Mark Letestu scored on the first attempt for Edmonton. Jonathan Drouin scored on Tampa Bay's second attempt
Leon Draisaitl had a goal and assist, Milan Lucic scored and Talbot made 31 saves for Edmonton (16-12-5).

Drouin and Tyler Johnson scored for Tampa Bay (15-14-3) and Ben Bishop made 30 saves.
"I think we had a lot of energy and we played a pretty solid game," Draisaitl said. "We had a few mistakes there, but I think other than that we played a pretty solid 60-minute game."
The Oilers outshot the Lightning 11-5 in a scoreless first period. Edmonton was playing its first game since Tuesday while Tampa Bay was playing its third game in four nights.
"We figured that tonight could really have gone either way," Johnson said. "We had some opportunities. [Vladislav Namestnikov] hits the crossbar in overtime, so I think we're happy with our game tonight."
Lucic scored on the power play at 3:58 of the second period to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead.
Center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins missed an opportunity to give the Oilers a two-goal lead, but he missed the net on a rebound off a shorthanded rush.

Drouin tied the game 1-1 at 18:59 on the power play when he snapped a shot past a screened Talbot.
"It's a huge [win] when you look at how tight the standings are," Lucic said. "To be able to get two points tonight was great."
Johnson gave Tampa Bay a 2-1 lead at 2:35 of the third period.
Draisaitl made it 2-2 on the power play at 7:03 when he tipped a pass from Letestu past Bishop.
"It was a great play by [Letestu] to read that I had a little bit of time there," Draisaitl said. "I just held my stick there and it fortunately went in."
Namestnikov nearly won the game with 3:23 left in overtime but his shot from the slot hit the crossbar.

They said it

"I think we did a good job not getting frustrated. We had a good start and we really didn't get rewarded in that first period." -- Oilers forward Jordan Eberle
"It's better. It's not where we want it to be, but still, I think tonight's a great step in the right direction. In the third, I thought we played them really tight. They didn't have much going on, one power-play goal off a nice tip. It was a good game for us." -- Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin
"There are some areas that we need to improve on, but it is a win. It's a comeback win. We've been on the other end of those lately so it is nice to come back and tie one up in the third period and win in a shootout instead of being on the other end."-- Oilers coach Todd McLellan
