Super 16: Ducks, Avalanche, Golden Knights enter rankings

There was significant movement in the NHL.com Super 16 this week after the first three teams.

The Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers repeated as Nos. 1, 2 and 3.
The Washington Capitals, Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers each moved up four spots to get to Nos. 4, 6 and 7. The Toronto Maple Leafs moved up eight spots to No. 8 and the Anaheim Ducks are No. 9 after not being ranked last week.
The Minnesota Wild, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers and St. Louis Blues tumbled.
The Wild moved down four spots to No. 10, the Flames dropped six spots to No. 11, the Flyers fell four spots to No. 13, and the Blues took the biggest fall, dropping 10 spots to No. 14.
To create the NHL.com power rankings, each of the 14 participating staff members put together his or her version of what they think it should look like. Those were submitted and a point total assigned to each.
The team that was selected No. 1 was given 16 points, No. 2 got 15, third 14 and so on down to No. 16, which got one point.
Here is the Super 16:

1. Carolina Hurricanes (12-2-0)

Total points: 223
Last week: No. 1
The Hurricanes are allowing an NHL-low 1.93 goals per game. They have allowed two or fewer goals in each of their past four games and in 10 of their 14 games this season, and have allowed an NHL-low six goals in the third period.

2. Florida Panthers (11-2-3)

Total points: 208
Last week: No. 2
The Panthers are 8-0-0 with a plus-22 goal differential at home. They have scored at least four goals in each of their home games, including five or more in six. Florida plays seven of its next eight games at home but will be without center Aleksander Barkov, who is week to week with a knee injury.

3. Edmonton Oilers (11-4-0)

Total points: 176
Last week: No. 3
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is second in the NHL and on the Oilers with 18 assists, one fewer than Connor McDavid. Nugent-Hopkins, who has scored one goal, has at least one assist in 12 of Edmonton's 15 games

4. Washington Capitals (10-2-5)

Total points: 167
Last week: No. 8
The Capitals have 12 goal-scorers in their past six games and are 5-0-1 in those games.

5. Tampa Bay Lightning (8-3-3)

Total points: 162
Last week: No. 7
The Lightning are 6-0-2 in their past eight games and they're doing it with a shutdown approach. They have allowed 14 goals during the streak (1.75 per game) after allowing 25 in their first six games (4.17 per game), when they were 2-3-1.

6. Winnipeg Jets (9-3-3)

Total points: 157
Last week: No. 10
The Jets were 5-1-1 on a seven-game homestand from Nov. 2-16, including a 5-2 win against the Oilers on Tuesday. Winnipeg is 7-1-1 at Canada Life Centre this season, tied with the Anaheim Ducks for the third-most wins in the NHL; the Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs each have eight.

7. New York Rangers (10-3-3)

Total points: 138
Last week: No. 11
The Rangers have won four games in a row for the second time this season. Chris Kreider has scored four goals during the winning streak and leads New York with 12.

8. Toronto Maple Leafs (11-5-1)

Total points: 128
Last week: No. 16
The Maple Leafs have won four in a row and nine of their past 10. Forwards Mitchell Marner (four goals, 10 assists), Auston Matthews (six goals, seven assists), John Tavares (seven goals, five assists) and William Nylander (five goals, six assists) have combined to score 50 points, including 22 of Toronto's 33 goals, during that span.

9. Anaheim Ducks (10-4-3)

Total points: 106
Last week: NR
Anaheim has won eight straight games, and forward Troy Terry has a 15-game point streak (11 goals, 10 assists), which is tied for third in Ducks history behind Teemu Selanne (17 games in 1998-99) and Corey Perry (19 games 2009-10).

10. Minnesota Wild (10-5-0)

Total points: 99
Last week: No. 6
The Wild have lost two of three since winning four straight from Nov. 2-10. They started the season 4-for-11 on the power play (36.4 percent) in their first three games but have gone 4-for-35 (11.4 percent) in 12 games since.

11. Calgary Flames (8-3-5)

Total points: 90
Last week: No. 5
Calgary has cooled off considerably, scoring two or fewer goals in four of its past five games (1-2-2) and going 1-for-11 on the power play (9.1 percent). The Flames scored at least three goals in eight of their previous nine games, when they were 7-0-2 and 9-for-31 on the power play (29.0 percent).

12. Boston Bruins (8-5-0)

Total points: 57
Last week: No. 14
Brad Marchand has scored 12 points (four goals, eight assists) during a seven-game point streak. He leads the Bruins with 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 13 games. Rookie goalie Jeremy Swayman is 4-1-0 with nine goals allowed (1.81 goals-against average, .927 save percentage) in five games since Oct. 28.

13. Philadelphia Flyers (8-4-2)

Total points: 54
Last week: No. 9
The Flyers have been held to two or fewer goals in nine of their past 11 games but are 6-4-1 in those games, including a 2-1 overtime win against the Flames on Tuesday and wins against the Capitals on Nov. 6 (2-1) and Hurricanes on Nov. 12 (2-1).

14. St. Louis Blues (8-5-2)

Total points: 52
Last week: No. 4
The Blues have lost four straight games by one goal, including 3-2 against the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday. Jordan Binnington has allowed 12 goals on 82 shots (.854 save percentage) in his past three games.

15. Colorado Avalanche (7-5-1)

Total points: 20
Last week: NR
The Avalanche have found some stability at home, going 3-0-1 and scoring 21 goals in their past four games at Ball Arena.

16. Vegas Golden Knights (9-7-0)

Total points: 18
Last week: NR
The Golden Knights are 8-3-0 with 15 goal-scorers since Oct. 26 even though they were without forward Max Pacioretty for those 11 games and forward Mark Stone for nine of them. They have been without forward William Karlsson for eight games because of a foot injury.
