The Atlantic Division forward delivered a highlight-reel goal, putting the puck between his legs and past a diving poke check from Metropolitan Division goalie Henrik Lundqvist in the first period of the 2019 Honda NHL All-Star Game.
"That just was a spur-of-the moment type of thing, just trying to have some fun here at the All-Star Game, it's for the fans really, and I'm just fortunate it went in," Stamkos said.
Stamkos, representing the Tampa Bay Lightning, beat Lundqvist early in during Ticketmaster Save Streak during NHL Skills on Friday, but the New York Rangers goalie rebounded to stymie Stamkos as part of his 12-save streak that won him the event.
But during the first period Saturday, Stamkos fielded a pass from John Tavares went between his own skates and slid the puck around Lundqvist, tying the game at two.
Lundqvist could only smile that that was what Stamkos had to pull off to beat him.
Stamkos got the highlight-reel moment, but Lundqvist and the Metro got the last laugh with a 7-4 win against the Atlantic Division.
